CavanKerry Press will read new submissions
February 1 - February 28, 2009

New submissions should be mailed to:

Florenz Eisman
Managing Editor
CavanKerry Press
99 Boulevard
Glen Rock, NJ 07452

Every writer who submitted a manuscript in 2007 will hear from us. It may take several months – so please be patient. WE CANNOT TAKE PHONE CALLS OR RESPOND TO QUERIES ABOUT SUBMISSIONS.

Manuscripts submitted to CKP are read with respect and care. As long as guidelines are met, manuscripts are never turned aside without attention and careful scrutiny.

New Voices
First books of poetry or prose not published previously in book form. Manuscripts whose contents previously appeared in journals are acceptable.  However, previously self-published manuscripts or chapbooks are unacceptable for submission in the New Voices  category.

Laurel Books
Poetry or prose that explore in depth poignant and critical issues associated with confronting serious and life-threatening physical &/or psychological illness. Only work written from a “personal” perspective, that is, by the individual who has experienced the illness is acceptable for submission. Work written from the observer’s or caregiver’s view will not be considered.  LaurelBooks manuscripts from “first” or “notable” writers are acceptable

Notable Voices
Poetry or prose by previously published writers of note.

GUIDELINES

Read these guidelines carefully before submitting and use The Chicago Manual of Style or similar guide to prepare your submission.

CKP's goal has been to avoid asking writers for a reading fee. Unfortunately, because of economic realities, CKP currently is unable to accept a manuscript unless it is accompanied by a $20.00 reading fee. Check should be made out to CavanKerry Press and included with submission.

CavanKerry Press is partial to the writer whose distinct voice is emotionally accessible and daring. We discourage writers from sending victim-ridden pedagogic, preachy or sentimental material. Works functioning as soapboxes for political causes are unacceptable. CavanKerry does not publish self-help, how-to, romance or science fiction.

Manuscripts that are carefully self-edited, read by a mentor, finished and ready for publication will stand out among the hundreds of submissions that CavanKerry receives.

Prose submissions are not to exceed 300 pages.

Only complete and hardcopy manuscripts will be read. Partial manuscripts are unacceptable.

Writer may submit only one manuscript. Manuscripts for different categories by one writer are unacceptable. Outer envelope and title page must clearly identify if your manuscript is submitted for New Voices, LaurelBooks or Notable Voices. Unidentified manuscripts will not be read.

CKP will not accept a revised manuscript after receiving the original work. Do not send revisions via email or snail mail. Minor revisions will be handled after acceptance for publication.

Manuscripts in English only.

Writer’s name, address, telephone and email must appear on the title page.

Manuscripts will not be returned. Do not send postage.  If you wish to know whether your manuscript arrived, please attach a stamped, self-addressed postcard to cover page.

Manuscripts with postmarks later than deadline date are unacceptable..

Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but advise florenz@cavankerrypress.org immediately if your mss is accepted elsewhere.
