East Hampton Poetry Marathon

“Poems are bridges on a journey into the heart of humanity. We are proud to stage our unique form of entertainment for the community to enjoy. We hope you will join us on any given Sunday in July. The early evenings are sultry and the presentations are enchanting.”
~Dee Slavutin, event coordinator

CavanKerry Press is proud to announce that founder and publisher Joan Cusack Handler will join Tom Thompson as the featured readers for the final reading of 2019’s East Hampton Poetry Marathon at the Mulford Farm on James Lane in East Hampton Village!

JOAN CUSACK HANDLER is a poet, memoirist, publisher, and psychologist whose creative work explores the emotional and psychological underpinnings of human experience. She has published three books of her poetry and one prose memoir. The titles are “GlOrious,” “The Red Canoe: Love in Its Making,” “Confessions of Joan the Tall,” and “Orphans.” She received the Sampler Award from “The Boston Review” and five Pushcart nominations. In other endeavors, she is the founding publisher of CavanKerry Press and author of a “PsychologyToday.com” blog, “Of Art and Science.” She lives in Brooklyn and East Hampton.

TOM THOMPSON is the author of “Live Feed,” “The Pitch,” and “Passenger.” He has published poems, reviews, and essays in journals such as “The Literary Review,” “The Bennington Review,” and “The Boston Review” and received awards from the Academy of American Poets and the Poetry Society of America. He works at St. Martin’s Press and lives in New York City with his wife, the poet Miranda Field, and their two sons.

The East Hampton Poetry Marathon, now in its 24 year, sponsors readings by notable Suffolk County and other poets starting Sunday, July 8, this year. They bring some of the most exciting new poetry crafted today to this program. In a brief hour we evoke the themes we love about the Hamptons: our ocean, the wild life of woodland and seashore, the precious moments with friends and family, the enduring romance of summer.

The Bridgeport community radio station WPKN records sessions to broadcast at 89.5 F.M for later airing on the its “East End Ink” show.

The East Hampton Poetry Marathon is held under the auspices of the East Hampton Historical Society. Attendees can tour the museum at 5. A reception will be held after the reading.
